A group of Muslim clerics, led by Sala Ayodeji, invaded a shop belonging to a female follower of Isese, a traditional Yoruba religion, in Ilorin, Kwara State.

The video of the incident, which was posted on X, formerly Twitter, on Friday, showed the clerics demanding that the woman leave the shop within eight days or face violence.

They also told the landlord to return her rent money and kick her out, claiming that Isese worshippers are not allowed in that area.

According to Ayodeji, the Kwara state police commissioner, Ebunoluwa Rotimi Adelesi, was informed of their action and supported it.

He said that they had done similar things before and warned the woman not to stay in the shop.

He said in Yoruba, “In seven days, the Alaran family refunded their money and evicted them.

If we come back in seven days and meet them here, the situation will be worse than this.

The commissioner of police is aware of our visit, You know this won’t be our first, we know how this works, so leave our town.”

The video sparked outrage among many Nigerians who condemned the intolerance and harassment of the Isese adherent.

Isese is one of the indigenous religions of the Yoruba people that dates back to pre-colonial times.

Some states in the South-West recently declared a public holiday to celebrate Isese Day.
