The 2023 Kwara State Secondary Schools Track and Field Championship is already showing promising results, with two potential amputee athletes discovered at the Lafiagi Centre in the Kwara North Zone.

The recently concluded event was filled with excitement and memorable moments, delighting the spectators in attendance.

Organized by the Kwara State Sports Commission, the championship aims to discover raw talented youth and revive secondary school games across the state. This grassroots initiative is proving successful as it uncovers hidden talents and provides young athletes with a platform to showcase their skills.

The program, which has previously been held in Kwara Central and Kwara South, recently concluded at the Lafiagi Centre in Kwara North. The next events are scheduled for Kaima and Baruten, before the final edition takes place in Ilorin.

The Lafiagi Centre, which hosted nine schools from the area, unearthed several talented athletes, including two standout amputee athletes. Omar Saidu, an SS1 student from Lafiagi Secondary School, and Mohammed Alhaji Issa from UBE Centre School Lafiagi, demonstrated exceptional skills in their respective events. Saidu excelled in the track events, winning the 200m race and placing fourth in the 800m. Issa showcased his talent in the Javelin event, impressing onlookers with his performance.

These young athletes have shown remarkable potential and could represent Kwara State in future national competitions such as the National Youth Games and the Sports Festival. Their impressive performances highlight their abilities as future champions for both the state and the country.
