Tragic Tanker Spill: Eight Lives Lost in Ondo State

Tragedy struck along the Ore-Benin Expressway in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State when a petrol-laden tanker overturned, leading to a devastating spill of its contents.

Regrettably, eight lives were lost as individuals attempted to scoop fuel from the leaked tanker.

The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ondo State, Ezekiel Son-Allah, confirmed that the victims lost their lives in a subsequent explosion.

The accident attracted residents from a nearby village, who rushed to the scene to collect spilled fuel.

However, the situation took a fatal turn when the tanker suddenly exploded, claiming the lives of the eight individuals involved in the fuel scooping activity.

Fortunately, the tanker driver and motor boy managed to escape unharmed.

Responding swiftly to the tragedy, the FRSC rescue team diligently carried out their duties and respectfully transported the victims’ remains to the morgue at the General Hospital in Ore.

This heartbreaking incident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers posed by petrol tanker accidents in Nigeria, where such occurrences have unfortunately been quite common.

These accidents are often the result of attempts to siphon oil or petrol from pipelines or due to mishaps involving tanker drivers on poorly maintained roads.

The authorities and communities alike must remain vigilant in promoting safety measures and awareness to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
